Biodynamic Preparations are living substances and should be stored carefully in peat-lined boxes. However, they should NEVER be in direct contact with peat. If you don’t have suitable storage boxes, we recommend that you order the Preparations as required, 1 or 2 days before use. Appropriate storage boxes are available at Biodynamie Services. See Order Form for details.
As a general rule, it is preferable to order your Preparations just before use for maximum effectiveness. Place your order in advance, specifying the desired date of delivery.
A suitable storage box is essential. Several models are available at Biodynamie Services. (See Order Form).
Our storage boxes are made of wood and lined with 6 cm of dried peat to protect and insulate each of the Preparations.
NB – The lid of the box is also lined with 6 cm of peat.
After several years of use, it is necessary to check the level of peat in the storage box, and top up if required. Use only radiation-free sphagnum peat that has been thoroughly dried.
Small glass (or sandstone) jars can be used inside the boxes. Porous pottery (flowerpots, for example) are NOT suitable for storing the preparations. The jars need not be covered, however, if using a preserve jar and lid, be sure to remove all metallic and rubber/synthetic parts first. The Compost Preparations should be stored in the same way, ensuring that 6 cms of dried peat separate each of the Preparations.
Horn Silica should be stored in a glass container only, and not hermetically sealed. The lid or cover should only be lightly screwed on. Place the 501 where it will receive morning sunlight only. An East-facing, outdoor window ledge is ideal. The contents of the jar should be shaken lightly from time to time. Avoid all exposure to electro-magnetic pollution : power lines, wi-fi, mobile phones, etc. In this way, the Horn Silica can be stored for several years.
